Buy Local: Christmas gift ideas for Tunbridge Wells families - Georgina Edwards Photography

10 local gift ideas for Tunbridge Wells families

'Tis the season to be jolly, fa la la la la, fa la la la!  December is here and it's the countdown to get everything done.

If, like me, you often stuggle to find the perfect gift for your loved ones, I hope this list below might give you some inspiration.  I think we're often tempted to just 'get anything' to be able to tick off another thing on our to do list.  This year, I'm making an effort to be more sustainable and so I've compiled a list of local, experience gifts which are a bit different, a bit fun and a bit local.

1. Photography gift voucher from Georgina Edwards Photography

Well, obvs! I am in Tunbridge Wells! Gift vouchers are available for just a session fee or your session plus a package. This can be for maternity photography sessions, for an in-home newborn photography session or for an outdoor family photography session. Vouchers are valid for the whole of 2019.

2. A Spa Day – Ashdown Park

Who wouldn’t say no to a lovely relaxing day at a spa. Ashdown Park in Ashdown Forest is perfect for an escape from the day to day rollercoaster of working and parenting.

3. Go Ape at Bedgebury Pinetum

This might not be for everyone, but if you like a bit of adventure and you have a head for heights, this is a really fun experience. I was gifted a Go Ape experience for a significant birthday recently, and I LOVED every second of it.

4. Annual Pass to Bedgebury Pinetum

While we’re on the subject of Bedgebury Pinetum, you really can’t go wrong with an annual pass to this fabulous place. Covering 320 acres, you can walk, cycle, run, horse ride, play, explore, climb, picnic, bird watch, gruffalo spot and many other things besides. If you don’t already have membership, seriously, go sign up today!

5. Cheese Making Course - High Weald Dairy

If you have a cheese loving friend or family member, I’m sure they’d be delighted with the chance to spend a day learning about, making, cooking with and eating cheeses at the local High Weald Dairy. Near Horsted Keynes in West Sussex, you can enjoy a one day course and learn about all things cheesy.

7. Wine Tasting - Kent Wine School

Do I need to say more?! Well, maybe! You can choose from various courses starting with a simple 2 hour evening course right through to an 8 week World Of Wine programme which will leave you fully qualified to select the right wine for the right occasion.

8. Gift hamper - Simply Sussex Produce

I love a gift hamper. Who doesn’t?! These guys offer trug baskets that you can either fill yourself or are ready made with yummy local produce. When you’ve snuffled up all the delicious treats, you’re left with a fab trug basket! And delivery is free is you’re in the Eastbourne area. Nuff said!

9. A trip down memory lane - Kent and East Sussex Railway

A journey on a steam railway always evokes childlike joy whatever age you are. If you’ve got a real train enthusiast, KESR offer fabulous experience days where you can literally drive the train! Or they offer slightly less immersive experiences such Sunday lunch or afternoon tea experiences. Sounds gorgeous!

10. National Trust Membership

OK, so this isn’t local in strictly the same sense, but we are lucky in the south east to have a real choice of National Trust sites to choose from. My family membership is renewed each year and we never tire of visiting Scotney Castle, Sheffield Park, Ightam Mote or Knole Park – to name a few in the local area.

So that's my list.  I hope it's given you some food (and drink!) for thought and maybe you'll be inspired to go local this year for your loved ones.

Merry Christmas one and all - ho, ho, ho!
