Spotlight on Sharp Thinking Marketing

Sharp Thinking Marketing provides outsourced marketing support for small businesses.  I’ve had the pleasure of working with Nat Sharp, the founder of Sharp Thinking Marketing, a number of times now.  Each shoot involvs creating a fresh set of brand images that will truly reflect Nat’s company values and professionalism. These projects have been particularly enjoyable as they have involved a combination of headshots, environmental portraits and lifestyle branding imagery; all designed to highlight Nat’s unique approach to marketing.

With 20+ years of experience working both for marketing agencies and client-side, Nat has honed her skills in developing award-winning marketing strategies. Her wealth of knowledge and passion for marketing is evident the moment you meet her. She has a special talent for combining professional expertise with down-to-earth practicality, ensuring her clients receive tailored, insightful advice.  I am always eager to work with Nat to capture images that truly reflect these brand values.

The Brief

Nat’s vision for the photos is always clear: she needs a selection of bright, natural shots that can be used universally across her website, social media and blog. In addition to headshots, she needs images that convey her brand proposition of being professional yet approachable, practical yet rooted in real insights. These photos need to reflect her warm, personable nature while still maintaining a professional edge.

The Challenge

For our latest session, we were shooting in two locations; Nat’s home office served as one backdrop for the photoshoot. The other was The Pantiles in Tunbridge Wells.

Nat’s office is blessed with large south-facing glass doors allowing plenty of natural sunlight to flood the room.  However, this creates a challenge. The midday sun pouring in through the glass can easily cause harsh shadows or overexposed shots. To maintain a soft, natural look, I have to be mindful of how to manage the light.

In the Pantiles, we needed a quiet time of day and (preferably) dry and windless conditions.  It’s a popular spot in Tunbridge Wells so early morning was ideal to avoid the crowds.  Plus, it’s always crucial for me to make all my clients feel comfortable in front of the camera, so keeping the atmosphere relaxed and informal – and making sure there aren’t loads of extra eyes watching! – serves to ensure the shots will look candid and authentic rather than staged.

Creating the Perfect Balance

Another key element of this project is ensuring that Nat’s brand identity is subtly incorporated into the photos. We don’t want anything too overt, but rather a hint of her brand colors and style through carefully chosen props, outfits and settings. This approach keeps the focus on Nat while still offering a visual connection to her business.

The Result

In the end, we produced a beautiful mix of indoor and outdoor shots that were light, natural, and versatile. The headshots reflected Nat’s professionalism while the more relaxed lifestyle shots captured her warm and approachable personality. These images will be used across her website, social media channels, and in various marketing materials, offering a consistent visual identity that’s aligned with her brand’s values.

What did Nat have to say?

“Georgina was patient and reassuring, and instantly put me at ease. She knew exactly how to get the perfect shot for me, combining both indoor and outdoor landscapes, using a mix of props and a variety of styles to capture my business. I would definitely recommend Georgina to anyone looking for a talented photographer.”
