How To Celebrate

Your 50th Birthday

(or 30th, 40th, 60th or 70th!)

How to celebrate your 50th

There is a time in everyone’s young life (if you’re readying this, it was probably a long, long time ago!) when the birthday parties you attend were all raucous 18ths and glitzy 21sts.  Then suddenly, somehow you found those same friends were sending out invites to their 30ths – which were, somehow, out of the blue and unexpected because you couldn’t believe you were about to say goodbye to your twenties!

Time ticked on and after a few Christenings and a haze of parenthood you can’t quite believe has flown by, you wake up one morning with an invitation to someone’s 40th birthday party.  I mean HOW DID THAT HAPPEN?   But it’s OK, because 40 isn’t THAT old!

Time Flies

And suddenly before you can blink, you are staring down the barrel at 50 and wondering where your life has gone!  I mean, come on…..the BIG 5.0.  That’s HALF A CENTURY ffs!!!

Thus, I find myself contemplating my own half century in the not too distant future and wondering what I might like to do to mark this really quite momentous (and SCARY) occasion!

 Let’s Celebrate

So if you are wondering how to celebrate your 50th, I have compiled a TOP TEN list of fantastic ways to celebrate a big milestone birthday – it doesn’t have to be a half century – to give you some inspiration if you’ve got one coming up soon!

Quiet Pampering Ideas

1.  Champagne Tea

If you fancy an upmarket, refined kind of celebration, you can’t go wrong with a posh afternoon tea, nibbling away at bite-sized cakes, tiny finger sandwiches and washing everything down with a glass (or two) or something bubbly!

Two great afternoon tea locations near Tunbridge Wells are Salomons or One Warwick Park

2.  Spa Weekend

If what you actually, really want, is a deeply relaxing night away from it all, a spa weekend is a winner.  Enjoy a spa treatment, a dip in a pool, fluffy dressing gowns and that luxurious feeling of being utterly pampered!

Two really lovely spots for a spa getaway near Tunbridge Wells are The Ashdown Park Hotel or The Spa Hotel.

3.  Wine Tasting Experiences

With a wealth of vineyards and distilleries in the Kent and East Sussex area, we are spoilt for choice for local wines and spirits.  So why not find out more about how wine and spirits are made by heading off to a cocktail making or wine tasting experience in beautiful countryside surroundings.

Two options for wine experiences  near Tunbridge Wells are Chapel Down or Wildwood Vineyard.

For The Adventurer In You

4.  Go Ape

Maybe you’re more of an adrenaline junkie than a zen seeker?  Then head up high into the tree canopy to find your fix!  Dare yourself to take on the 5 course Treetop Challenge culminating in a 170m zip line descent.  So much fun, but a bit scary if you’re afraid of heights!

You can find Go Ape at Bedgebury Pinetum.

5.  Aqua Park

If you’re still a thrill seeker, but aren’t so keen on heights, then back down at ground level, the aqua park at Bewl Reservoir is a must.  Slap on that wet suit and be prepared for some highly entertaining antics on the inflatable course.

The nearest Aqua Park to Tunbridge Wells is at Bewl Reservoir.

6.  Paddleboarding

Equally thrilling, but more tranquil, is messing about on the river!  Take to the rivers, canals or seas of Kent and East Sussex for a peaceful paddle.  Make it more special with a sunset paddle or, at the Bodiam Boating Station (info below) you can tie in a 2 hour paddle with a breakfast or lunch after.

The Paddle Cabin have sites across Kent & Sussex or lovely Bodiam Boating Station is based at on the River Rother at Northiam.

Celebrating With The Family

7.  Glamping Weekend

A lovely idea for a birthday treat is to immerse yourself in the idyllic countryside in Kent or East Sussex and enjoy a weekend of glamping with your loved ones. Escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life and experience the joy of camping without the hassle of setting up tents or dealing with deflated beds. Cherish precious moments with your family as you embrace the back-to-nature feel of this extraordinary adventure.

Carocol Camping is in Groombridge or Kits Coty Glamping you can find near Aylesbury.

8.  Chocolate Making

An option that is bound to be a winner with the younger members of the family as well as the old(er!) ones is a chocolate making workshop.  Choose a general chocolate workshop, or go all in with a truffle making workshop and get both messy whiling away a couple of hours of chocolate filled fun.

Temper Temper is based in Southborough.

9.  The view from above…

Head up to the Big Smoke, or down to the coast at Brighton and treat yourself to views from a different perspective.  In London, spend a glorious 30 minutes soaring up to 135m high above the Thames with 360-degree views across London.

In Brighton, spend 25 minutes in the i360 pod where you can enjoy drinks at the onboard bar whilst gazing out across the channel.

The London Eye is on the south bank in central London or you can find the Brighton i360 on the seafront in Brighton.

10.  Make some special memories; a family photoshoot – with me!

And last, but by no means least, why not commemorate this special time by capturing some gorgeous, timeless and happy memories with a family photoshoot?  Time doesn’t half march on when you have children and they seem to grow like weeds!  So rather than letting another year go by when the best family photo you have is a selfie where at least one person has half their face cut off, book yourself in for a relaxed and fun photoshoot.
