It’s important to note that it isn’t about looking aggressive, serious or impossibly cool. It isn’t about pretending to be someone else either. The best powerful portraits are still unmistakably you. They simply dial up the confidence, the character and the presence.
Sometimes that comes from dramatic lighting. Sometimes it’s a direct gaze, an unexpected backdrop or a styling choice that feels bold but natural. But often, and this is very relevant for women, it’s simply giving yourself permission to take up a little more space.
The result is an image that feels different.
Headshots that land differently
Headshots with personality are the ones that stand out. Because they feels confident; because they feel distinctive. Because your headshot says something about you before anyone has read a word about you!
These are photographs that work hard. They look striking wherever they feature and where first impressions matter, carrying a sense of character that really does feel real and authentic and very much NOT manufactured.
Creating a striking portrait doesn’t mean standing awkwardly in front of a camera hoping inspiration appears. It comes from collaboration, good conversation and paying attention to the details that make someone unique.
There is room for laughter. There is room for experimentation (I really like this bit!). There is room to try something a little unusual and, perhaps, discover that it suits you perfectly.
It will completely depend on YOU, your personality, your industry. There isn’t one formula for a kick ass headshot.
The common thread is confidence.
But not the loud, performative kind.
